HUD has announced agreements with insurance companies in Ohio and Florida following an investigation into violations of Fair Housing Act regulations. We occasionally devote space to these issues because even in situations where the violations involve rental housing or other non-FHA loan transactions, they can affect borrowers seeking to apply for FHA loans. HUD Charges Bank of America With Housing Discrimination

The HUD official site has announced that the agency is bringing charges of Fair Housing Act violations against Bank Of America in South Carolina. According to a press release, “The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced today that it has charged Bank of America, N.A., and two of its employees with violating the Fair Housing Act by discriminating against prospective Hispanic mortgage borrowers in Charleston, South Carolina.” Federal Fair Housing laws make it illegal to discriminate against borrowers based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. HUD Announces Additional Relief To Disaster Areas

As 2016 draws to a close, HUD announces that some of the hardest hit natural disaster areas are getting nearly $2 billion in additional federal relief. According to a Department of Housing and Urban Development press release, HUD “awarded an additional $1.8 billion to help Louisiana, West Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida to recover after severe flooding events that occurred earlier this year. Provided through HUDs Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program, these recovery funds will assist the most impacted communities that experienced the most serious damage to their housing stock.” Earlier this month, President Obama signed the Fiscal Year 2017 Further Continuing Resolution, which became law on December 10, 2016. HUD Announces Fair Housing Act Charges, Settlements

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced a new Fair Housing Act case in Florida, and settlements of similar cases in two other states. According to a press release at the HUD official site, ” The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced today that it is charging landlords in South Florida with discrimination against tenants with disabilities. HUD Adds Relief For Hurricane Matthew Victims In Virginia

Last month, we reported on a HUD press release announcing relief for victims of Hurricane Matthew. That relief was offered in four states; North and South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia. Now, HUD has announced the same kind of relief for those who live in Virginia and are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. HUD Announces Final Rule For Equal Access

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced a new final rule that promises important protections for all Americans seeking housing, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Financial literacy is an important part of being a well-informed home buyer. For those just starting out on the journey toward home ownership, there can be a great deal of learning to do; how FICO scores affect your ability to purchase a home, how open lines of credit can and often do factor into a lender’s decision to approve or deny a mortgage, etc. HUD launched a study to see how home buyer education and certain types of financial counseling might make a difference to house hunters. HUD Announces First Healthy Homes Month
