A reader asks, “How can I as a consumer find out if my FHA case number has been issued without asking lender? It does not do me any good to call lender I talk to a different person everyday. I keep getting told it has not been issued.”
“I put in application on January 6th, 2015. I know they probable had to cancel my old case # because I had an appraisal done on the 12th. This is a refinance and I have been in this house for over 10 years. How long is it taking FHA to issue the new case numbers? I realize they are delays since the reduction went into place but it has been 6 days. Is there a number I can call to see if my case number has been issued.”
Information about an FHA home loan including case numbers, the loan application’s current status of approval or when it might be approved would come from the lender.
Since the lender is responsible for applying for and using your FHA loan case number, the only other source of information about a borrower’s FHA loan case number would be the FHA itself.
If you have your old FHA case number you may be able to get assistance from the FHA by calling their toll-free hotline at 1-800 CALL FHA.
The reader asks how long it is taking to cancel old FHA loan case numbers and assign new ones. This is a question we can’t answer since we cannot speak for the FHA–borrowers who want to know how long the process might take should either call the FHA toll free number or speak to the lender.
If the lender tells a borrower a new FHA case number has not yet been issued, that is likely the only answer they have to give until the FHA notifies the lender otherwise. The amount or volume of case numbers being cancelled is likely very high since the program was announced, so some delays may occur until the FHA case load gets smaller.
